Three Components Per Vehicle
Each vehicle gets a GPS tracker and a cellular SIM card — $87 per vehicle, one time. The OBDCheck BLE+ diagnostic dongle is available as an add-on for $45 per vehicle. All hardware is configured and installed by our team.
Teltonika FMB140
GPS tracker with built-in CAN bus reader, accelerometer, and 128 MB flash memory. Hardwired to vehicle power. Dimensions: 65 x 56.6 x 20.6 mm. Weight: 55g.
OBDCheck BLE+ Dongle
Plugs into the vehicle's OBD-II port under the dashboard. Connects to the FMB140 via Bluetooth LE (iOS) or Classic Bluetooth (Android/Windows). Reads full engine diagnostics: DTC fault codes, coolant temperature, engine load, throttle position, intake air temp, and more. Available as an add-on — $45 per vehicle.
Multi-Carrier SIM
Multi-carrier SIM that automatically connects to the strongest available cellular signal. Managed from your Frontera Fleet dashboard. Activates and deactivates per vehicle. Cellular connectivity is included in your monthly subscription — no separate data plan needed.
From Vehicle to Dashboard
1. FMB140 Reads Vehicle Data
The tracker reads CAN bus data directly (fuel, speed, RPM, odometer) and receives OBD-II diagnostics via Bluetooth from the dongle (DTC codes, coolant temp, engine load). Built-in accelerometer detects harsh braking, acceleration, and crashes.
2. Data Transmits Over Cellular
The Multi-Carrier SIM sends telemetry data to our servers over GPRS. If cellular signal drops, the 128 MB flash stores up to several days of data and syncs automatically when signal returns.
3. Server Processes in Real Time
Our TCP server receives the Teltonika Codec 8/8E binary data, parses it, and writes it to the database. Vehicle position, speed, and status update on the dashboard within seconds.
4. Dashboard and Apps Update Live
WebSocket connections push every update to the live map, mobile apps, and parent app in real time. No polling, no refresh. Alerts fire immediately via SMS, push notification, and email.

Direct Vehicle Data Without OBD
The FMB140's built-in CAN bus chip reads these values directly from the vehicle's CAN network — no OBD dongle needed for this data.
Fuel Level (Dashboard)
Reads the fuel gauge value directly from CAN bus. Same reading the driver sees on the dashboard.
Total Fuel Consumption
Cumulative fuel consumed since vehicle manufacture. Used to calculate consumption rates and efficiency trends.
Vehicle Speed (Wheel)
Speed from the wheel speed sensors via CAN. More accurate than GPS speed at low velocities and in tunnels.
Vehicle Driven Distance
Odometer reading from the vehicle's CAN bus. Tracks total distance and distance per trip for maintenance scheduling.
Engine Speed (RPM)
Live engine RPM from CAN bus. Used for ignition detection, idle time calculation, and engine load analysis.
Accelerator Pedal Position
Throttle position as a percentage. Used in driver behavior analysis for harsh acceleration and efficiency scoring.
Full Engine Diagnostics via Bluetooth Dongle
The Bluetooth OBD-II dongle plugs into the vehicle's diagnostic port and connects wirelessly to the FMB140. This gives you full engine diagnostics on top of the CAN bus data.
DTC Fault Codes
Active, stored, and pending diagnostic trouble codes. P-codes, B-codes, C-codes, U-codes. Translated to plain English on the dashboard.
Coolant Temperature
Live engine coolant temperature. Triggers alerts when trending above the baseline for that engine type.
Engine Load
Percentage of engine capacity being used. High sustained load can indicate mechanical issues or driver behavior problems.
Throttle Position
Real-time throttle position from the engine control unit. Feeds into driver behavior scoring and fuel efficiency analysis.
Intake Air Temperature
Air temperature entering the engine. Anomalies can indicate air filter issues or sensor failure.
Battery Voltage
Vehicle battery voltage in real time. Low voltage alerts fire before the battery dies, not after.
Accelerometer & Software Features
The FMB140 includes a 3-axis accelerometer and firmware-level detection scenarios that work independently of OBD data.
Crash Detection
Accelerometer detects sudden deceleration events consistent with a collision. Triggers an immediate alert with GPS coordinates.
Towing Detection
Detects when a vehicle is being moved with the ignition off. Alerts fleet manager immediately with location.
Excessive Idling
Detects when a vehicle idles beyond a configurable threshold. Logs duration and calculates fuel waste.
Jamming Detection
Detects GPS signal jamming attempts. If someone tries to block the tracker, an alert fires immediately.
Unplug Detection
Alerts when the device is disconnected from vehicle power. The internal battery keeps the device alive long enough to send the alert.
Green Driving
Scores driving events in real time: harsh braking, harsh acceleration, harsh cornering. Feeds directly into the driver safety score.
Auto Geofence
Automatically creates a geofence around the vehicle's last known parked position. Alerts if the vehicle moves.
Over Speeding Detection
Configurable speed thresholds at the device level. Logs speeding events with location, duration, and max speed reached.
Ignition Detection Methods
The FMB140 supports four different ways to detect ignition state, configurable per vehicle:
- ✓ Digital Input 1 — hardwired to ignition line
- ✓ Accelerometer — detects movement and vibration patterns
- ✓ External Power Voltage — voltage threshold change when ignition turns on
- ✓ Engine RPM via OBD-II dongle — most accurate method for vehicles with OBD
Sleep Modes
Four configurable sleep modes to balance tracking frequency with battery and data usage:
GPS Sleep
GPS module sleeps between fixes. Wakes on schedule to acquire position. Under 20 mA at 12V.
Online Deep Sleep
GPS off, GPRS stays connected. Device wakes on movement or schedule. Under 11 mA at 12V.
Deep Sleep
GPS and GPRS off. Device wakes on movement or ignition. Under 8 mA at 12V.
Ultra Deep Sleep
Minimum power consumption. Device wakes only on movement. Under 6 mA at 12V.
